Big Water, Little Boats: Moulty Fulmer and the First Grand Canyon Dory on the Last of the Wild Colorado River with Tom Martin
Join Flagstaff author Tom Martin for a fun, visual presentation on his newest book, Big Water, Little Boats, in which he follows the whitewater exploits of Moulty Fulmer. The builder of Grand Canyon’s first dory during the high-water heyday of river running before Glen Canyon Dam, Fulmer ran the river for almost forty years between 1942 and 1978. Join Tom and experience the glory days in boating when legendary river runners like Fulmer, Norm Nevills, Frank Wright, Dock Marston, Pat Reilly, and Martin Litton ruled the rapids. Bring your life jacket!
Tom Martin is a physical therapist at the Grand Canyon Clinic at the South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park. A hiker in Grand Canyon National Park since the 1960’s, Martin co-founded the Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association and River Runners for Wilderness, and presently serves as Secretary of the Grand Canyon Historical Society. Martin’s writing includes “Day Hikes from the River”, and the popular “Guide to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, Lee’s Ferry to South Cove”, which won the 2007 National Outdoor Book Award.
